Republic Day 2024
Republic Day is one of the three national festivals of India besides Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti. It is celebrated on 26th January every year. On this day, magnificent parade commences at Janpath, New Delhi. Various events such as flag hoisting ceremony, etc are major attractions of this day.
Importance of Republic Day
After attaining independence from British Rule, the new constitution was drafted by Dr.B.R. Ambedkar. The Indian Constitution came into force on 26th January 1950, which assures its existence as an independent republic and 26th January was chosen as an independent republic. The festival is celebrated all over the nation with great enthusiasm and pride. It is a day to honor the Constitution of India. This day reminds us about the patriotism. National flag hoisting ceremony also take place in schools/colleges. In New Delhi, tricolor is hoisted by the President of India at India Gate followed by the parade at Rajpath, New Delhi, thoroughly organized by the Ministry of Defence. Besides this, its military prowess and different cultures of India is also shown in the parade.
The event pays homage to martyrs who have sacrificed their lives to give freedom to India. The Prime Minister of India honors the martyrs by putting a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti, India Gate. Preceding this, 21gun fire shot salute, national flag hoisting, and national anthem is sung. Brave soldiers are awarded with Paramvir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, and Vir Chakra. Besides this, children and general citizens display the courage during the time of misfortune with awards and recognition.
The winners of gallantry awards salute the President in Military jeeps. It is followed by display of its military power which includes March-past by the armed forces and military forces. The parade also includes Indian Air Force fighter jets at Janpath. The celebration is conducted all over the nation with pomp and show, however, Delhi, the capital of India, celebrate the Republic Day celebration.

National Holiday
Republic Day is declared as a national holiday. The day is celebrated on the occasion of establishment of Indian Constitution. On this day, all local, state and Government offices remain closed on this day. Various business organizations and commercial places are opened for a few hours only. However, public transport is unaffected by this occasion. And security is kept on a special check.

- The constitution was created and adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949.
- The first Republic day parade took place in 1950. It took place at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium. Three thousand Indian military personnel and more than 100 aircraft participated in the parade.
