Dr B. R. Ambedkar or Bhim Rao Ambedkar, was a well-known economist, politician, and a social reformer who fought for the rights of the Dalit community. Back in those days, Dalit community was seen as untouchables in several parts of India. He was the man who framed the constitution of India; a book consisted of rules and rights of the people of India. Dr Ambedkar advocated the rights for Women and Labours. Ambedkar was a bright student. He practiced Law and Economics. Dr B. R. Ambedkar attained the doctorate degree in Economics from two top universities in the world - Columbia University and London School of Economics. He was against the idea of creating separate electorates for the untouchables and thus advocated equal rights for all.

He founded ‘Bahishkrit Hitakarini Sabha’ to promote education among the ‘social outcastes’ consisted of non-Brahmin classes of people. He introduced five periodicals such as Mooknayak, Bahishkrit Bharat, Samta, Janata, and Prabuddha Bharat to write about deprived classes. As suggested by the British, he was against the separate electorate for the backward classes. And after a long discussion, a pact (Poona Pact) was signed between Dr Ambedkar and Congress activist Madan Mohan Malaviya. This pact allowed the deprived class to receive 148 seats in the legislature opposed of 71 seats suggested by the British Government. And later this deprived class was recognised as ‘Scheduled Caste’ and ‘Scheduled Tribe’ in the Indian Constitution.

After India became independent, B. R. Ambedkar became India’s first Law and Justice Minister. And later he was appointed to draft the India’s constitution and this leads to Indian constitution.

In the year 1923, he started Bahishkrit Hitkarini Sabha to spread the need of education and develop the financial status of the low-income group. It is a social movement that aimed at removing the caste system from India. He started movements such as temple entry movement, anti-caste movement, anti-priest movement, etc.
