Important Information

Every year, the Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET) is conducted by the Karnataka State Eligibility Test Centre, University of Mysore. Shortlisted candidates take the exam to be considered for positions of lectureships and assistant professorships in Karnataka. According to KSET’s official website, candidates who qualify for the KSET examination are governed by the same recruitment rules and regulations as lecturers and assistant professors in universities, colleges, and institutes (public, aided, and private) Karnataka.

A candidate who has previously qualified for the KSET exam cannot apply for the same subject another time. In case a candidate has appeared in any previous KSET test and now intends to reappear. The candidature of the candidate would be cancelled, and the previous eligibility is withdrawn through de-notification. Across Karnataka, a total of 11 nodal centres will conduct the KSET 2024 exam across 41 subjects.

Eligibility Criteria

KSET 2024 participants will be required to fulfil multiple eligibility requirements to take the state assessment. Following is the list of qualifying criteria for the Karnataka State Eligibility Test:

• For the general category, at least 55% of marks (without rounding off) should have been achieved, and for the schedule category (SC), scheduled tribe (ST), minimum 50% of marks. People With Disability (PWD-VH/PH), Category I, IIA, IIB, IIIA, and IIIB with Master’s degree or equivalent from universities/institutions recognized by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi the subjects opted for KSET examination.
• KSET is also available to those who have appeared or will appear in the qualifying examination for the Master’s degree (final year) and whose result has been delayed or for those whose qualifying examinations have been delayed. Candidates who pass the KSET will be admitted provisionally, but only if they meet the admission requirements. Only graduate students achieving at least 55% in their final Master’s degree or equivalent examination will be eligible to receive an eligibility certificate. In particular, SC, ST, PWD (VH/PH), Category I, IIA, IIB, IIIA, IIIB, must achieve 50% success within two years from the KSET examination date or else they will be de-qualified.
• A PhD degree holder whose Master’s degree was completed on or before 19th September 1991 (irrespective of the declaration of results) is entitled to a 5%-mark reduction for taking the KSET Examination.
• If the candidate does not find the relevant subject to his postgraduate program in the KSET list of subjects, the candidate may apply for CBSE UGC-Net / UGC-CSIR NET, held twice a year.
• For applicants from categories other than General, they must include information about their social status (Category 1 and IIA, IIB, IIIA, IIIB, SC, ST, PWD (VL/PH)) on the online application form. Note that candidates must meet the eligibility criteria and that attested copies of documents such as postgraduate degree marks cards, Xth marks cards, certificates explaining the category of a candidate and certifications of their handicap (VH/PH) must be enclosed with their application. Candidates should submit category certificates by the last date for submitting the hard copy of the application form, and the competent authority should issue the certificate. His or her issue date should not be earlier than 01st July 2015. The KSET agency may determine at any time that their certificate was incorrect and cause them to be ineligible for admission. If so, their candidature will be cancelled, and they will be subject to legal action.
• In the same subject, applicants who became eligible in the previous KSET exam cannot apply again. The candidate who was found to be eligible in a previous KSET exam and then submits their application again for the KSET 2024 exam will have their candidature cancelled. Those students will be prohibited from taking the KSET 2024 exam.
• In the subject opted for the KSET examination, candidates must possess a Master’s degree or an equivalent examination from an institution recognized by the University Grants Commission.

Exemptions from giving the KSET examination 

Lecturers and assistant professors in Universities, Colleges, and Institutions of Higher Education (Government-assisted or Private) in Karnataka must pass the KSET exam to be eligible for employment. There are, however, some exceptions to the rule listed on the official website:

• Assistant Professors in universities, colleges, institutions will continue to be recruited and appointed only with passing scores in NET/SET/SLET examinations. In this regard, exemptions from the NET/SET/SLET exam will be governed by UGC regulations and amendments notified in the Gazette of India from time to time as appropriate.
• The KSET examination is not required for those who passed the UGC-NET/CSIR JRF examination before 1989.
• Candidates who cleared the SET before 01st June 2002 are exempt from appearing in KSET. Candidates may apply for Assistant Professor anywhere in India, regardless of the SET they cleared. Candidates qualified for SET examinations held after June 2002 are eligible to apply for assistant professor positions only at universities/colleges located in the state where they passed the test.

• Make sure you follow your routine regularly.
• Consider participating in online mock tests regularly.
• Examine the examination pattern so you can practice effectively.

Admit Card 

• Admit cards are mandatory for candidates to bring to the examination hall on the day of the exam.
• Several weeks before a written exam, a candidate is issued an admit card by the board that conducts the test.
• Among the information included in the form are the candidate’s details, including personal details, roll number, subject of the exam, examination centre, and exam centre code.
• An admit card and a passport-sized photograph must be carried on the examination day by all candidates wishing to participate in the examination.
• Admission to the examination hall will be restricted to candidates who have been admitted.

Application Process 

• The Karnataka state eligibility test centre has released KSET forms for the year 2021 in Mysore by COVID-19.
• Candidates must check their recent passport-sized photographs and their permanent signatures before starting the application registration procedure. They should also make sure that they meet all the eligibility requirements before starting the process.
• To fill out the application forms at the University of Mysore, it is only necessary to do so online.
